Old Police Headquarters
After being abandoned for more than 20 years, this 100,000 square foot Spanish-style landmark was threatened with demolition. Heritage worked with the owner and lead architect on a preservation and adaptive-reuse solution to create a dining and retail destination. The project incorporated almost all of the surviving historic features, including a popular self-guided exhibit of eight original jail cells.
This $24 million restoration project incorporated many preserved historic features, especially at the interior. Hundreds of square feet of elaborate staff-plaster ornamentation was preserved and conserved. The original Spanish Baroque wall murals had been painted over, but they were were cleaned, documented and recreated with new paint to match the historic designs and color schemes.
