Wood Residence

La Jolla, CA

The Léger/Wood residence was designed in 1961 by renowned local architects, Ruocco & Delawie. The house possesses many of the signature characteristics that are representative of Lloyd Ruocco and Homer Delawie’s distinguished bodies of work, both in their independent architectural practices and during their partnership. The residence is also an exceptional example custom-residential Modern architecture.

Previous owners of the property made several unfortunate alterations to the home which diminished its architectural integrity. The restoration project, under the guidance of Heritage Architecture & Planning, included the reconstruction of two original interior courtyards and a complete exterior and interior restoration/renovation of the house. The exterior restoration included replication missing and damaged sections of the original T1-11 siding, restoration of original fiberglass screens, restoration of fixed glass panels, replacement of non-historic windows with period-appropriate aluminum windows, replication of the original paint color scheme, installation of a new wood-shingled roof to match the original, installation of period-appropriate fencing, landscaping, and reconstruction of the original garage. Interior work included removal of non-historic interior finishes and fixtures, construction of a new period-appropriate kitchen and master bathroom, and installation of 1960s-era fixtures and finishes throughout the four-bedroom house.
